Do you want to reduce your carbon footprint and do your bit to help the planet?

Here at Coretek, we are big on technology. Over the past two decades, we have seen the transformative power of technology in making businesses dramatically more effective, efficient and successful.

But we believe this shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet.

There is a big push for businesses to play their part and reduce their carbon footprint. Did you know that your IT systems could be contributing to the problem?

One example is how you store your data. It takes roughly 70kw of power to cool 100KW of power generated, so for every 100KW of energy used, you are actually using 170KW (nearly double). In the industry, this figure is referred to as PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness). So, in this example the PUE figure would be 1.7.

At Coretek, our data centre partner, Datanet have a PUE of around 1.5 and are continually reducing this with an aim to get down to 1.3.

Your customers care about going green. You should too.

Currently, over 81% of consumers believe that businesses should do more to reduce their impact on the environment. People are more likely to choose businesses that play their part in protecting the environment over businesses that don’t.

%

of consumers think businesses should improve the environment

%

of consumers are willing to spend more money on sustainable brands.

%

of consumers would change their buying habits to reduce environmental impact.

Businesses that aren’t making positive steps now are likely to be penalised in the future. For example, one of the outcomes from the recent COP26 summit is that businesses must detail plans of how they will move to a low carbon future by 2023. Many tech giants are using rhetoric to proclaim their “green” credentials but in practice, they are not making changes fast enough.

It is clear that there is an urgent, ethical need for more sustainable technology.

Due to this, we are taking steps to help companies like you reduce your CO2 footprint NOW.

Introducing IT solutions from Coretek – now powered by 100% renewable energy

Green IT Windmills

To help to combat this issue, we have some very exciting news! In conjunction with our partner Datanet, Coretek are now using 100% renewable energy at our Datacentre.

This means that any clients using our CoretekCloud platform can be confident that your IT systems are green, efficient and carbon neutral.

Carbon neutral renewable energy is generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, waves, hydroelectricity, and geothermal heat. Carbon-free energy is clearly superior to fossil fuels (e.g. oil and coal) since they release harmful CO2, which contributes to global warming.

Coretek have already been using solely renewable energy at our main office in Romsey for the past 3 years and now are delighted to be able to extend this to CoretekCloud. In addition, we continually audit our supply chain to seek out suppliers and partners who align with our ideals to reduce our carbon footprint and help protect the planet.

Datanet has been providing hosting and connectivity solutions to UK businesses for over 25 years through its business-class cloud hosting and connectivity services. Coretek recognised the value of these services and has been a loyal user of Datanet for many years.

Both Datanet and ourselves are going even further in our journey to net-zero carbon with several initiatives such as promoting remote support to reduce car journeys and investing in newer, cleaner cooling systems at the data centre.

Good citizenship and having a positive impact on the world is one of our core values and with your help, we can ensure that we are all doing our part towards a sustainable future.

How can you move to greener IT and start making a change now?

Green IT Planet

If you are looking to make a positive change and reduce your carbon footprint, we are here to help. If you have on-premise IT equipment, moving to a hosted environment will make an immediate positive impact, especially if you partner with a company like Coretek that uses renewable energy.

We have long talked about the benefits of cloud computing and how consolidating several on-site servers into a cloud platform saves money, is far more scalable, improves security, enables remote working and offers the flexibility to move offices with ease. However, one additional benefit is how much more energy-efficient this model is. This not only saves you money but also helps benefit the environment.

Thanks to modern cloud technology, making this kind of move is now easier than ever. Coretek can help you make that move, freeing up that old server room and leaving the headache of maintaining your IT systems with us.
